HOW IT'S MADE
These beautiful monk bowls from Rohida Wood using the wood turning technique. These bowls can be used as a kitchen vessel or an art piece. The craft of hand carving and wood turning is hundreds of years old. A skilled artisan fixes a rough circular block of wood at the head of a traditional lathe machine and hammers it in place. The machine begins spinning as the artisan introduces a chisel to the block and applies varying degrees of pressure to sculpt the desired shape and smoothen the edges. A rough piece of canvas cloth is used for a final polish. These rural artisans persevere to keep this craft alive despite stiff competition from plastic toy manufacturers
